First maintenance item on the G35. I realized I was struggling to get 15 MPG in the city. I decided to poke around and see what I could do, and i found out the old air filters were filthy. Got Wix filters. Not gonna mess with the K&N drop-ins right now.

Remember, if you get a K&N filtre, be sure to grab filtre oil.

Is your G35 an automatic?

Don’t mess with the K&N drop-ins ever, really - they’re a great way to ruin your MAF.

Getting more than 16-17 in city driving is almost impossible, speaking from personal experience. You might want to try a throttle relearning procedure, it helped temporarily when I had mine.

Positives: compared to my IS, your car is: 1) newer, 2) better fuel economy on the highway, and 3) 90 or so more horsepower.

Only if overly oiled. Plus MAF cleaning should be part of regular maintenance these days.

I’ve got about 200k miles on K&N filters, no issues (but I have heard of plenty).

Their filtration numbers suck after being washed multiple times and aren’t that great right out of the box. Cosworth uses a good media and flows well. It’s dry and won’t mess up your maf

Thanks...I hadn’t heard of them before. I know the K&N results tend to be skewed because max flow is when brand new, but max filtration occurs when they’re slightly used and have just a little dust clinging to them. The entire profile changes over time.

But I’ll look into those for my next replacement. I tend to keep air filters for 100k+

But it’s super easy to over oil it, so you’re better off just using an OEM filter. With the cost of parts online now, and the cost of the K&N recharge kit, it would take a hell of a long time for it to pay for itself.

On a lighter note, I checked a car one time and the filter had shit growing on it and I told the customer about his , and his response was: “Oh, I thought those were lifetime filters.” Wow.
